The Sweetest Coconut Water Experience in Bali’s Hidden Corners
Hands down, this was probably the best coconut water I’ve ever had 🥥 Freshly opened out the front of the Water Palace, ice cold and in true Javanese style, finished with a splash of gula aren (palm sugar syrup). Because here… everything is a little bit sweet. The cutest husband-and-wife team running the cart, big smiles, gentle laughs, and the perfect excuse to practise my Indonesian while we stood there chatting. Simple moments like this are always my favourite 🤍

Hidden in the heart of Ubud, just outside the majestic Water Palace, lies an unassuming coconut cart offering something unforgettable — the sweetest coconut water in Bali. On a recent sunny afternoon, I stumbled upon what might just be the best coconut water I’ve ever tasted 🥥.

Imagine this: A freshly cracked young coconut, its chilled water already refreshing. Then, in classic Javanese style, it’s elevated with a generous splash of gula aren — a rich, traditional palm sugar syrup that brings a hint of natural caramel sweetness. It was a flavor I didn't even know I'd been searching for.

The experience was made all the more memorable thanks to the lovely husband-and-wife duo who run the cart with warm smiles and a kind spirit. As they prepared the drink, we chatted in a blend of English and my best attempt at Indonesian — easily one of my favorite moments of the trip. Their genuine hospitality and light-hearted laughter made it feel like so much more than a quick refreshment stop.

For families exploring Ubud, this stop offers a taste of authentic local charm while giving everyone — especially little ones — a chance to cool down and enjoy something naturally sweet. It’s a simple, soul-lifting moment tucked into a larger day of sightseeing that proves some of the most memorable travel experiences happen in the smallest corners.

Next time you're wandering through Ubud's vibrant streets, be sure to find the cart just outside the Water Palace. Order one coconut, ask for the sugar syrup, and get ready to sip something truly special.
