Banana Pancakes, Mango Yakult & Memories: A Bali Breakfast Story

Banana Pancakes, Mango Yakult & Memories: A Bali Breakfast Story

There are two things going on in this photo—banana-topped pancakes and a cheeky Yakult on the side—but what’s really happening here is something we’re pretty passionate about in our home: kids in the kitchen 🍳🥞🍌 This morning’s breakfast was cooked by Fox, with Lola by his side passing down her now-famous pancake recipe (she has lovingly tweaked it over time—don’t even think about messing with the ratios 😆). Watching her guide him through the process honestly made my heart melt. She loves to cook everything, but this moment felt extra special—like a little kitchen legacy being passed on. In our house, cooking is non-negotiable for the kids—especially the boys. Jed’s specialty is his spaghetti (and he gets very protective over how al dente it needs to be). Raf’s go-to is a bacon and egg roll, heavy on the BBQ sauce, he even adds Sambal now 🤣. And while Fox is still finding his signature dish, maybe these pancakes—with golden bananas on top—are the beginning of something great. And then there’s the Yakult. Now I’ll be honest—I never really bought it in Australia. It was just one of those little luxuries that felt way too pricey for our crew of six. But here in Bali? You can grab a pack for under $2 AUD, and they’re everywhere. They even have a mango flavour, which—don’t @ me—might just be better than the original. Our fridge usually has a stash because, well… gut health and deliciousness. And it makes breakfast feel just that little bit fancy 😋 So here’s to kids learning life skills, pancakes with banana, and affordable mango-flavoured Yakult. Not a bad start to the day 💛 #BaliFamilyLife #KidsInTheKitchen #CookingWithKids #FamilyMeals #BaliBreakfast #YakultLove #PancakeLegacy #ChadAndMiaApproved #BaliWithKids #LearningThroughLiving #MangoYakultIsSuperior

There's something magical about slow mornings in Bali—especially when breakfast turns into a family affair. Today’s spread? Fluffy pancakes crowned with golden, caramelized banana slices and, on the side, a chilled bottle of mango Yakult (a new household favourite).

But this breakfast was more than just delicious. It was made by Fox, our youngest, under the guidance of his big sister Lola—who, by the way, takes her pancake recipe very seriously. Watching her pass down her kitchen know-how with such care was one of those quiet parenting moments you want to bottle up forever. The kind that turns a simple morning into a lifelong memory.

In our Bali home, cooking isn’t just encouraged—it’s part of our daily rhythm. Each of the kids has a specialty: Jed rules the spaghetti scene with his perfectly al dente touch; Raf’s bacon and egg rolls are legendary (now with a spicy Sambal twist); and now, maybe, Fox has found his claim to fame with these lush, banana-topped pancakes.

And let’s talk about the Yakult. Back in Australia, it felt like a luxury treat, especially with a family of six. But here in Bali? Mango Yakult for under $2 AUD? Yes, please. It’s become a staple in our fridge—equal parts gut-friendly and indulgent. Some might say the mango version outshines the original (we’re not naming names, but... it’s me 🙋‍♀).

These are the moments that make Bali so special for families. It’s not just about tropical adventures and beach days—it’s about connecting over something as simple as breakfast. So here’s to kids learning real-life skills, passing down traditions, and the morning magic of pancakes and mango Yakult. 🥞🍌🥭
