The Unexpected Joy of Family Becak Rides in Bali
Rule of the day: find your travel buddy- 2x2. So Chad and I jumped in with the little kids, thinking we’d all arrive together. What we didn’t realise? Ours were motor becaks. The big boys? Old-school pedal becak 💀 We cruised in feeling very smug… and then waited another 10 minutes for them to roll in, poor fellas legs were burning, stories ready. Still... hands down the best $15 we spent for 3 rides. A 7-minute ride from Taman Sari (the Water Palace) to the Kraton, full of laughs, chaos, and a memory we’ll talk about forever. 10/10 family transport. Would absolutely do again 😂
If you’re planning a Bali adventure with the family, here’s an unexpected gem you’ll want to add to your itinerary: a becak ride from Taman Sari (the Water Palace) to the Kraton. It’s just a quick 7-minute trip—but oh, what a ride!
Rule of the day? Find your travel buddy – in our case, it was two-by-two. Chad and I jumped into our own motorized becak with the little ones, thinking we’d all cruise together like a happy caravan. But as soon as we pulled ahead, it dawned on us: ours were motor becaks... the rest of the family? Good ol’ pedal-powered.
Cue the smugness as we zipped past the bustling streets of Bali, soaking it all in with the kids giggling beside us. When we arrived, we stretched, camera-ready—only to wait another 10 minutes for the rest to finally roll in, legs trembling, sweat on their brows, and full of stories from their scenic (read: slower) journey.
For just $15 total for three rides, it was hands down money well spent. It was the kind of chaos that becomes core memory-level funny—the laughter, the breeze, the mix-up… perfection.
This ride isn’t just about getting from point A to B; it’s about the experience. Think family bonding, unexpected surprise, and those moments that make you smile long after the trip is over.
Whether you go motor or pedal (we recommend motor with kids!), it’s a must-do for any family visiting Bali. Affordable, unforgettable, and full of charm—10/10 family-friendly transport. Next time, we’ll let the big kids choose the ride… maybe.
Pro tip: Head out early to beat the heat and bring small bills for an easier ride negotiation. Your family Bali adventure just got even better!
