A Sweet Christmas Eve Family Tradition That Grows With Your Kids
Christmas Eve tradition at our place 🎄 Every year we make reindeer cookies for Santa. You can eat while you create… but you must submit at least one for the Santa plate. The rule? Submit your best… or now that the big kids have cottoned on… submit your worst and eat the good ones 😂 Some traditions just grow with your kids, and we wouldn’t change a thing.

Christmas Eve holds a special kind of magic — especially when you're celebrating far from home, like in beautiful Bali. One of our favorite ways to bring a slice of home into our tropical holiday is by continuing our cherished family tradition: baking reindeer cookies for Santa. 🦌🍪

Every year, no matter where we are in the world, our family gathers around the kitchen to craft these sweet treats. It’s laughter over cookie cutters, sticky fingers from icing, and sneaky bites of dough — because one rule has stood the test of time: you must submit at least one cookie for Santa’s plate. The rest? Up for grabs (and giggles).

What started as a cute activity for toddlers has grown into a hilarious competition. The older kids, now wise to the game, bring their A-game — or, plot twist — intentionally submit the goofiest-looking cookie just to sneak off and enjoy the better ones! It’s become part of the charm, a quirky ritual we look forward to each holiday season.

Even here in Bali, where palm trees replace pine, we keep the tradition alive. Many resorts offer in-villa kitchenettes or cooking classes tailored for families, making it easy to continue your festive fun abroad. Local markets offer fresh, tropical twists to classic ingredients – think coconut sugar or vanilla straight from the pod – adding an island flair to your holiday bakes.

It’s proof that some traditions don’t just survive travel — they thrive in it. As your kids grow, your family rituals evolve, weaving in new experiences and creating memories that last far beyond Christmas Day. So wherever you are this festive season, don’t forget to pack your cookie cutters. 🎄
