Exploring Creativity in Sanur: A Family Art Adventure in Bali

Art has always had a way of weaving itself into our family, and this week we took a little trip to a fantastic local art shop in Sanur. The goal? To gather supplies for Jed, who’s decided to take his incredible drawing talent (yes, we’re biased, but also very right 😉) and try his hand at painting! This little shop was a treasure trove of everything he needed—paints, brushes, canvases, and all the “bits and bobs” that make the magic happen. There’s something so special about wandering aisles filled with tools of creativity, imagining the masterpieces waiting to be made. It took me back to when Chad and I were at school, naturally gravitating toward the arts—he through music and me through visual arts. There’s a unique joy in expressing yourself creatively, and seeing that passion spark in Jed now is such a proud parent moment. Whether it’s sketching, playing an instrument, or experimenting with paints, the creative process always brings something meaningful to life. As parents, it’s such a privilege to nurture these interests and provide the space and materials for them to flourish. Bali, with its rich artistic culture and vibrant energy, has been the perfect backdrop for all kinds of inspiration. The beauty around us—from the lush greenery to the intricate details of Balinese craftsmanship—is a constant reminder of the magic in creating. Watching Jed dive into a new medium is a reminder that it’s never too late (or too early!) to try something new.
