Maggots, Compost & Community: A Bali Family’s Eco Adventure with MagiFarm

Loading video player...

Doing our bit for Bali 🌱🌍 We visited Eco Tourism Week in Bali and left feeling inspired by some incredible local initiatives — like MagiFarm! Yes, we’ve got maggots in Bali… and they’re absolute legends when it comes to food waste. These little guys eat up to 1kg of food waste per day, and once a week, they’re collected and taken to the “fly love room” to start the cycle again. The adult flies? Turned into natural fertilizer, and each household gets 1kg of compost per month for their garden. Win–win–wiggle 🐛💚 We’re giving it a go as part of our family’s effort to reduce food waste and live a little greener. Stay tuned — we’ve got a few more eco-changes happening around the house we can’t wait to share! @Magi Farm @ecotourismbali #EcoBali #MagiFarm #SustainableLiving #GreenBali #EcoTourismWeek #BaliFamilyFinds #ReduceFoodWaste #BaliWithKids #HomeCompost #EcoTips #FlyLoveRoom #LivingGreener

Maggots might not be your typical Bali postcard moment — but our visit to Eco Tourism Week opened our eyes to how these tiny composting champions are helping us reduce food waste in the most surprising (and sustainable) way. We discovered MagiFarm, a brilliant local initiative turning household scraps into garden gold — with the help of Black Soldier Fly larvae. These hardworking maggots can consume up to 1kg of food waste per day! It’s nature doing what it does best: recycling. Here’s how it works: each week, the maggots are moved to the "Fly Love Room," where they grow into adult flies. These flies are processed into nutrient-rich fertilizer, which gets returned to households as 1kg of compost every month. That means our kitchen scraps help to grow greener gardens across the community. Win–win–wiggle! 🐛🌱 We’ve signed up with MagiFarm as part of our family’s journey to live more consciously while enjoying life in Bali. It’s been a fun and educational project for us and the kids — a hands-on way to learn about the food cycle, waste reduction, and giving back to the island that gives us so much. If you’re in Bali with your family and looking for meaningful ways to travel and live more sustainably, check out MagiFarm. From fun composting kits to community workshops, they make eco-living feel simple and even a little bit magical. Stay tuned for more of our home eco-adventures — we’re just getting started! #EcoBali #MagiFarm #SustainableLiving #GreenBali #EcoTourismWeek #BaliFamilyFinds #ReduceFoodWaste #BaliWithKids #HomeCompost #EcoTips #FlyLoveRoom #LivingGreener
