How Bali Transformed Our Homeschooling Journey Without a Classroom

Bali changed how we educate our kids. And it had nothing to do with school. 📖🌴 ✔️ Cooking lunch = a math and nutrition lesson ✔️ Watching a cremation ceremony sparked a week of cultural study ✔️ Reading books under a palm tree > forced worksheets ✔️ They ask better questions now, and we answer with real-life experiences ✔️ Less stress = more learning If you’re thinking about homeschooling—or already doing it—travel is the best curriculum you’ll ever find. #WorldSchooling #UnschoolingLife #BaliHomeschool #MindsetShift #BFFApp
When we first landed in Bali, we didn’t expect it to transform the way we taught our kids—but it did. Instantly.
There was no need for a chalkboard or curriculum planner. Life here _is_ the classroom. Cooking nasi goreng for lunch turned into an impromptu math and nutrition lesson. They learned about fractions by chopping vegetables and learned about balance by pairing flavors.
One afternoon, we came across a traditional Balinese cremation ceremony. What followed was a week-long exploration—delving into Hindu beliefs, the significance of family, and the art of honoring life and death. Questions poured in, and instead of textbooks, we had temples and local friends as our answers.
Even reading changed. It wasn’t forced or timed. They'd curl up with books under palm trees, and somehow, without pressure or test scores, they started reading more—just because they _wanted_ to.
The biggest shift? Curiosity exploded. They ask better questions now. Questions that spark meaningful conversations, not quick explanations. And we have the space, the time, and the world around us to answer them properly.
Bali has taught us that learning doesn’t require four walls. It thrives in coconut groves, in market stalls, and on the steps of ancient temples. Less stress has made more room for joy, connection, and real learning.
If you're considering homeschooling or already on the path, think bigger. Travel is the best curriculum there is. And Bali? It's more than a destination—it's an education.
