A Family Travel Reset Day in Yogyakarta: Embracing the Slow Moments

January 4, 2026

Day 3 in Yogyakarta 🇮🇩 Chad and I ducked into town while the kids stayed home for a slow morning. We wandered Jalan Malioboro, grabbed a coffee, soaked up the buzz, jumped in a becak, and somehow always end up with Rocket Chicken 🛵🍗 It was crazy busy because we’re travelling during a national holiday period, but that energy is part of what makes Jogja feel so alive. Then it was straight back home for swims, play time, and family hangs. We usually balance travel with one big adventure day, then a rest day — and this was definitely our reset day. Slow, simple, and just right. #yogyakarta #bali #indonesia

**A Family Travel Reset Day in Yogyakarta: Embracing the Slow Moments** Day 3 of our Indonesian adventure brought a welcomed pause. After a few jam-packed days discovering the vibrant heart of Yogyakarta, we decided to slow things down—a little travel reset, perfect for family balance. With the kids staying back for some chill time at our homestay, Chad and I snuck off into town for a grown-up morning adventure. The streets along Jalan Malioboro were buzzing—locals shopping, stalls calling out with colorful batik, and street musicians adding to the festive holiday spirit. It’s always a little wild during national holidays in Indonesia, but that pulse of energy? That’s the real Jogja magic. We wandered aimlessly, grabbed a strong, local coffee, and soaked in the lively atmosphere. Before we knew it, we were tucked into a becak (the classic Indonesian tricycle taxi), dodging scooters and grinning ear to ear. Somehow, as always, Rocket Chicken ended up on the menu. There’s just something about their crispy ayam that hits the spot every time. 🚲🍗 By the afternoon, it was back home for swims in the pool, LEGO towers, and giggles under a shady tree. No big plans, no rushing—just truly being together. Traveling with kids means knowing when to press pause. We’ve found that alternating high-energy days with slower ones not only keeps everyone happy but makes the journey so much richer. Yogyakarta’s vibrant chaos met with our family’s quiet play—it was the perfect blend. For families exploring Indonesia, don’t underestimate the joy of a ‘rest’ day. Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the slowest ones. #yogyakarta #bali #indonesia #familytravel #slowtravel #travelwithkids
