What $230 AUD Gets You in Groceries While Living in Bali

Ever wondered what a $230 AUD grocery shop gets you in Bali? Spoiler: a lot more than you’d expect. Fresh produce, pantry staples, snacks for the kids, cleaning bits — the trolley was full and so were the cupboards.

Ever wondered how far $230 AUD goes when grocery shopping in Bali? Well, we recently did a big family shop, and let's just say, we had to work some serious Tetris skills to fit everything into the fridge and pantry afterwards.

For starters, the fresh produce here is not only abundant but incredibly affordable. With just a fraction of the budget, we loaded up on vibrant dragon fruit, sweet mangoes, bananas, avocados, and leafy greens. Local markets and supermarkets are teeming with fresh options — and so fresh, they often come straight from nearby farms.

Next, pantry staples: jasmine rice, noodles, pasta, sauces, and a variety of local spices filled the cupboard quickly. A pack of eggs, cartons of milk, fresh bread, and even some imported items like organic muesli and almond milk fit comfortably into the budget.

If you're traveling with little ones, the good news is you won’t need to skimp on snacks. We picked up yogurt, crackers, mini juice boxes, and some sweet local treats to keep the kids happy (and bribe-worthy). Oh, and yes — you can definitely sneak in a few indulgences for the adults, too (hello, Bali coffee and a bottle of wine!).

We also managed to cover the basics for household cleaning: laundry detergent, dish soap, and even some natural all-purpose cleaner. Everything totaled around 2.3 million IDR — that's roughly $230 AUD — and the sheer volume we brought home was impressive.

Living or traveling in Bali as a family doesn’t mean compromising on quality — just the opposite. Grocery shopping here offers amazing value, especially for budget-conscious families looking to stretch their dollars while still enjoying fresh, nutritious meals at home.
