๐พ Bali has a sacred day dedicated to animals. ๐ฎ๐ฉโค๏ธ Today is Tumpek Kandang, a special day in the Balinese Hindu calendar that happens every 210 days. It is a day to show gratitude, respect and care for animals, particularly the animals that live alongside and support people every day. Cows, pigs, chickens and other livestock have traditionally been an important part of Balinese life, but pets can also be included in the day. Families may give offerings, prayers and special attention to their animals as a way of acknowledging their importance and asking for their wellbeing. ๐๐ผ๐๐๐๐ And I absolutely love that this is part of everyday life here in Bali. So today, weโre saying a littleโฆ Selamat Tumpek Kandang! ๐พโค๏ธ To our own two very different members of the familyโฆ ๐ Ned, who is very much convinced that every day should be Tumpek Kandang if it means extra attention. ๐ข Serena, who honestly seems to believe she is above all of this. ๐ Itโs such a beautiful reminder that gratitude and respect arenโt just about the people around us. They extend to the animals we share our lives with too. ๐ฟโค๏ธ If youโre in Bali today, you may notice families giving special care and offerings to their animals. As always, if you see a ceremony happening, observe respectfully and ask before taking photos. Selamat Tumpek Kandang! ๐๐ผ๐พ๐ฎ๐ฉ
