Before the kids wake up and the tropical sun fully creeps into our villa, I finally find a moment to reflect on a monumental milestone—we’ve survived our first term of homeschooling three kiddos in Bali! While our second eldest has been on this journey for 12 months now, our youngest two just joined the homeschooling adventure this year, and let’s just say…it’s been a ride. Homeschooling in Bali has been equal parts thrilling and challenging. Picture this: math lessons under swaying palm trees, history discussions at the foot of ancient temples, and science experiments that happen to include observing sea life during a snorkeling trip. The unique rhythm of Bali life breathes a fresh kind of magic into education, transforming lessons into immersive, real-world experiences. Of course, it’s not all sunsets and sandcastles. Finding balance has been crucial. Between lesson planning, managing three very different learning styles, and countless “Mom, I’m hungry” interruptions, there were days where we questioned if we’d made the right choice. But seeing our kids light up while writing a story about the volcano they visited, or calculating travel budgets in real-life scenarios, has confirmed that these experiences are priceless. We’ve also learned to embrace the flexible Bali lifestyle. Some days, “school” looks like reading together by the pool or counting coconuts at the market. Other days, it’s diving deep into a structured curriculum. The key? Knowing that learning happens everywhere—especially in a place as vibrant and inspiring as Bali. For families considering homeschooling in this tropical paradise, our biggest tip is to embrace the chaos and build a routine that works for _your_ family. Bali is bursting with opportunities for adventure, creativity, and connection. Homeschooling here might be unconventional, but it’s a journey we wouldn’t trade for the world. Here’s to many more terms of learning, laughing, and exploring!
