From Chairs to Tortoises: The Wild Ride of Homeschooling in Bali
Facebook Marketplace in Bali is absolutely wild đ One minute youâre scrolling for a chair⌠the next youâre ordering tortoises for your homeschool program đ˘ This was about a year ago now â and wow, have we learnt a lot since then. Even through losing Twig (and somehow regaining a Twig đĽš), the tortoises are going strong. Real-life lessons, responsibilities, and plenty of learning along the way. Bali homeschooling definitely keeps us on our toes đ

Homeschooling in Bali is not your average experienceâand we discovered that firsthand when a simple search for a chair on Facebook Marketplace turned into us adopting tortoises for our homeschool program. Yep, what started as furniture hunting quickly became a wild adventure in hands-on learning (thanks, Bali!) đ˘

A year later, weâre still marveling at how that accidental scroll shaped our homeschooling journey. The tortoisesâlovingly named, of courseâbecame more than just pets. They introduced science lessons on biology and ecosystems, inspired art projects, and most importantly, taught our kids about responsibility, empathy, and the cycle of life. (RIP Twig the First, but Twig 2.0 is thriving đ).

Homeschooling in Bali isnât just about books and worksheets; itâs about embracing a lifestyle where learning organically unfolds from the environment around you. One day it's tortoise care, the next it's rice field studies or cultural workshops at a local temple. The opportunities are endlessâand unpredictable!

For families living or traveling here, Bali offers a vibrant, community-driven homeschooling scene. Networking through Facebook groups reveals a treasure chest of educational activities, co-ops, and great second-hand finds (sometimes even reptilian ones!). Whether youâre an unschooler, worldschooler, or structured curriculum follower, Bali blends it all with a dose of island magicâand a few unexpected surprises along the way đ.

So if youâre considering homeschooling in Bali, be ready for more than just textbooks. You might come for the tropical lifestyle but stay for the unexpected lessonsâplus maybe a tortoise or two.
