Can I self drive in Bali? We are about to! We are planning a Bali road trip, with our family over the next 8 days. So do you really need an international drivers license in Bali? Yes! We both have international drivers permits - even our Indonesian Bike licenses! But there was no way we were doing this trip on a motorbike! So is it worth hiring a car in Bali?… aircon, a place to store our stuff and the freedom to stop when we want?! We say YES 🙌🏼 #bali #roadtrip #carhire #familyactivities

Planning a Bali road trip with your family? Buckle up, because we’re here to answer the burning question: Is it worth hiring a car in Bali? For us, it’s a resounding YES! Here’s why. First off, let’s talk about freedom. The allure of Bali isn’t just in its famous beaches or bustling towns—it’s in the hidden waterfalls, quaint villages, and off-the-beaten-path gems. With a car, you’re not tied to tour schedules or crowded buses. Want to stop for an impromptu coconut drink or linger longer at that breathtaking rice terrace? Go for it! Then there’s comfort. With little ones in tow, a private car makes all the difference. The cool air conditioning becomes your sanctuary from tropical heat, and it’s so much easier to keep all your family necessities—snacks, changes of clothes, even tired kids—organized and close at hand. No balancing acts required, unlike a motorbike (which, trust us, is NOT family-road-trip-friendly). Yes, you absolutely need an international driver’s permit to drive legally in Bali, and we strongly recommend getting one before your trip. Some rental companies may not ask for it, but if you’re ever pulled over, it’s a must-have. Safety first! If driving yourself feels a bit daunting, hiring a car with a local driver is also an excellent option. You still enjoy all the flexibility while benefiting from their local know-how. Whether it’s exploring Ubud’s temples, marveling at Jatiluwih’s lush green landscapes, or chasing sunsets at Uluwatu, having your own set of wheels turns your Bali adventure into something truly unforgettable. We say skip the motorbike and rent that car—it’s family road-tripping made easy. Happy travels! 🚗✨
