Exploring Bali by Car: A Magical Road Trip from Kintamani to Sanur

September 8, 2025

After a few magical days in Kintamani, it was time to pack the car and head back to Sanur. Road trips (or even just a day trip) are such a great way to see a different side of Bali – mountains, farms, winding roads, and those little hidden gems you’d never find otherwise. We had such a beautiful stay up in the cool air, but we’re not going to lie… nothing feels better right now than the thought of a piping hot, soapy shower back home. If you’re planning your own Bali family holiday, don’t forget you can grab our free packing + planning checklist inside the Bali Family Finds app, set up eSIMs to stay connected, and unlock discounts to fun all across the island with the BFF Pass. Until the next adventure… 🚗✨ Would you do a Bali road trip on your next holiday? #BaliFamilyFinds #BaliWithKids #BaliFamilyTravel #BaliRoadTrip #KintamaniBali

After a few magical days exploring the cool, misty beauty of Kintamani, we packed the car and hit the road for Sanur’s sunny shores. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that road-tripping through Bali reveals a completely different side of the island. Think emerald rice fields, sleepy mountain villages, and surprise warungs serving the best satay you’ve ever tasted.

The drive from Kintamani to Sanur is about two hours, but we recommend leaving plenty of time to take it slow and savour the journey. There are winding roads with breathtaking viewpoints—stop for a photo or simply soak in the beauty. Tip: Pack some snacks, a podcast, or your favourite island playlist to truly enjoy the experience with the family.

While we adored our peaceful stay in the highlands (the crisp air is a dream with kids), we won’t lie—by the time we rolled into Sanur, nothing felt better than a hot, soapy shower! There’s something about coming “home” on the island that feels so comforting, especially after a few days of adventure.

If you’re planning a Bali family holiday, don’t forget to use our free packing and planning checklist in the Bali Family Finds app. You can also set up eSIMs to stay connected and make the most of exclusive island-wide discounts with the BFF Pass—perfect for making the most of your family trip.

So, would you do a road trip in Bali on your next holiday? We can’t recommend it enough. Mountains, memories, and magic await. 🚗✨
