From Sunrise to Scenic Views: Our Sanur to Amed Family Road Trip Adventure

Loading video player...

Our last day on the Sanur → Amed road trip was a big one! We were up with the kids at 5:30am and straight to Om Karma Cafe for 7am coffee and brekkie. When we got back, we woke the big boys and headed out to Lipah Beach for a morning snorkel. Next stop: Vienna Beach Resort for another round of coffee + brekkie, where we could swim straight out into the reef and see fish and coral. Back to the villa for a mad pack (nearly forgot our trusty portable doorbell!), but roadworks slowed us down. Google Maps threw us on a wild detour, which ended up being amazing — we found Warung Coffee Bali in Karangasem for lunch, surrounded by some of the most beautiful rice fields we’ve ever seen. We sent the drone up for those epic bird’s-eye views before cruising down scenic roads through to Manggis. By the time we got home, the rental car was filled up, bags unpacked… and a cat had fallen through our bathroom manhole. Nothing says “Bali road trip” quite like that. Where should we head next?
Our final day on the Sanur to Amed family road trip started early — 5:30am wake-up call thanks to little feet ready for adventure! By 7am, we were fueling up at Om Karma Cafe with rich coffee and hearty brekkie surrounded by the peaceful morning hush only Bali can offer.

After breakfast, the big kids joined us and we headed straight to Lipah Beach for a sunrise snorkeling session. Crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral, and playful fish had the kids screaming with excitement through their snorkels!

Next up was a second breakfast (because why not?) at Vienna Beach Resort. This stop was golden — fresh food, beachfront coffee, and snorkel-ready reef access just steps from the sand.

Our villa checkout was a whirlwind (note to self: double-check the packing list — almost left the portable doorbell behind!). Then, a surprise: Google Maps rerouted us due to roadworks—and what a blessing that was. A hidden gem called Warung Coffee Bali popped up amid the rice fields of Karangasem. It’s the kind of spot you dream of discovering: lush green views, delicious nasi goreng, and drone-perfect panoramas.

From there, it was a scenic cruise through Manggis, picturesque coastlines rolling past our windows. By the time we reached home, we were sun-kissed and road-trip happy. Bonus twist? A curious cat made its way into our bathroom via the ceiling manhole. Yep, welcome back to Bali!

Want to plan your own unforgettable Bali family journey?
