Embracing Scooter Life in Bali: Our Family’s Unexpected Journey
Activities, Tips
Saying goodbye to our @noabike this week, and it feels a bit bittersweet. When we first moved to Bali, we *definitely* weren’t planning on getting a bike. But after a while, we decided to give it a go, got our Indonesian licenses, and now we’re all about that scooter life! 🛵💨
We’ve got three licensed drivers in the family: Chad, myself (Mia), and Jed. It works out perfectly—each of us takes a passenger, so we can fit our family of 6 across 3 bikes! It’s not something we’d ever do back in Australia, but here in Bali, it’s a whole different vibe. There’s a freedom to it that’s hard to describe, but it’s one of the things we’ve come to love most about living here. 🌴
Have you ever ridden a bike in Bali? Would you? Let us know!

When we first set foot in Bali, renting scooters was nowhere on our radar. Yet here we are, saying a heartfelt goodbye to our trusty @noabike, reflecting on the incredible journey it’s taken us on. Scooter life in Bali wasn’t just a convenience—it was a game-changer for our family of six. 🛵💨
At first, the idea of hopping on scooters seemed overwhelming. Coming from Australia, where busy traffic and strict rules keep you in your car, the thought of navigating Bali’s vibrant—but chaotic—roads on two wheels felt intimidating. But as time passed, something about the lively hum of bike engines and the freedom they symbolized felt too enticing to ignore. We got our Indonesian licenses, and bit by bit, scooter life became second nature for us.
Now, each of us licensed drivers—Chad, myself (Mia), and Jed—rides with a passenger. That’s six of us spread comfortably across three bikes. It’s a practical puzzle we’d never attempt back home, but here in Bali, it works perfectly. From weaving through quaint villages to zipping past emerald rice paddies, scooters aren’t just a way to get from A to B. They’re a ticket to adventure. 🌴
What we’ve come to love most about riding bikes here isn’t just the practicality; it’s the sense of connection to Bali’s rhythm and charm. No car windows separating us from the salty breezes, no barriers between us and the island’s beating heart. It’s freeing, thrilling, and surprisingly family-friendly when done with care.
So, would you try exploring Bali by scooter? It’s not just transportation—it’s a way to embrace Bali’s laid-back spirit fully. Let us know your thoughts—and who knows? You might just find yourself trading four wheels for two. 🚴♂️✨
