Crafting Sobriety: Finding Clarity, Beauty, and Grounding in Bali’s Simple Rituals

Health, Tips, Activities

Almost four years sober. Almost four years of clarity, growth, and finding beauty in the simplest moments—like the first sip of coffee in the morning. ☕ This week, that ritual felt even more meaningful as I had my first coffee in a mug I made with my own hands at @clayplaybali i—glazed with sand from Amed, one of the most beautiful and peaceful corners of Indonesia. Since becoming sober, coffee has become more than just a drink for us. It’s a daily pause. A moment to be still, to reflect, and to ground ourselves. And now, sipping from this mug—imperfect, textured, and shaped by my fingers—it’s a reminder that slowing down, creating, and being intentional with our time is what truly matters. Working with clay, molding something raw into something beautiful, felt deeply personal. It’s like sobriety—it’s messy at first, takes patience and practice, but in the end, it’s something solid, something you’re proud of. Living in Bali has also taught us to appreciate the beauty of nature and the traditions woven into everyday life here. From the sand that shaped this glaze to the volcanic energy that surrounds the island, there’s something grounding about holding a piece of this place in my hands. Sobriety has given me the clarity to appreciate these moments. To find joy in small rituals. And to create things—not just with my hands, but with my life—that reflect intention and care. So here’s to the simple things—coffee, creativity, and the courage to start fresh. And here’s to Bali, for reminding me every day to slow down, connect, and savor the beauty around me. 🌿 What are the small rituals or moments in your life that help you feel grounded? I’d love to hear them! #ClayPlayBali #HandmadeWithLove #SobrietyJourney #CoffeeRituals #IntentionalLiving #MindfulMoments #BaliLife #AmedBali #SlowLiving #MadeByHand #LifeAfterAlcohol #GratitudeMoments #BaliBeauty #CreatingWithIntention #SoberLiving

Almost four years into sobriety, I’ve learned to find clarity, joy, and grounding in life’s simplest rituals. Take my morning coffee, for example. That small act of sipping freshly brewed warmth has become a cherished pause—a gentle reminder to be present. This week, that moment felt even more sacred as I held my first handmade ceramic mug, crafted at @clayplaybali and glazed with sand collected from Amed, a serene slice of paradise in Bali. This may look like just a mug to some, but to me, it’s a testament to slowing down, creating intentionally, and finding beauty in imperfection. Working with clay was humbling—getting my hands dirty, shaping something raw into something meaningful. It mirrored my sobriety journey: messy and uncertain at first, but ultimately full of patience, growth, and pride. That sense of accomplishment is indescribable. Living in Bali nurtures this mindfulness in surprising ways. From the calm of Amed’s shores to the volcanic energy that pulses through the island, there’s an undeniable connection to nature here. Holding this mug, glazed with sand shaped by time and tides, I’m reminded of how deeply we are all rooted in the earth and its quiet magic. Bali, with its traditions and simplicity, teaches you to embrace life’s slow rhythm and savor moments of calm in a fast-paced world. For families traveling to Bali with kids or solo explorers, I encourage you to seek out creative experiences like this. Whether it’s crafting at a pottery studio, walking through a rice field, or pausing to watch the sunset, Bali offers countless opportunities to reconnect—with yourself, with nature, and with those you love. What small daily rituals ground you? Whether it’s a cup of coffee, a mindful walk, or a shared laugh, these moments matter. Bali has shown me that.
