Facing My Fears in Bali: The Things We Do for Our Kids
Hate birds. Love my kids. Apparently the solution is to eat the bird before it eats me. What have you ever done for you kids that had you scared outta your mind?
I’ve never liked birds. The flapping, the beady eyes, the unpredictable swooping—no thanks. So when my kids begged to visit a Bali bird park, I politely suggested literally anything else. But you know how persuasive little faces can be. Fast forward to me, chest tight with fear, cringing as a parrot settled on my shoulder.
In Bali, family travel has a way of pushing limits you didn’t know you had. Nestled among the lush tropical greenery, Bali Bird Park is actually a beautiful and well-maintained spot for families—if you’re not terrified of feathered creatures, of course. My children were ecstatic, darting between aviaries and gasping at hornbills, toucans, and cockatoos. Me? I was calculating the quickest exit strategy.
But here’s the twist: watching my kids laugh, learn, and light up around these birds somehow made my fear... shrink. I even found myself stroking a pelican (okay, more like a gentle poke, but still). While I didn’t suddenly become a bird-lover, I walked out feeling triumphant. I faced a fear I never thought I’d confront—all because I wanted my kids to have a special experience.
Bali is packed with unforgettable family adventures—from rice terraces to temples to surfing lessons. Some may challenge you in ways you never expected. But those are the moments your kids will remember. Not just the fun, but the bravery you showed for their sake.
So, what fear have you faced for your children? If Bali’s on your travel list, bring your curiosity, your courage, and maybe a little bird repellant. 😉 You’re in for one wild ride—and trust me, it’s so worth it.
