Exploring Bali's Culinary Delights: Discovering BBQ Goat

March 6, 2026

Would you try BBQ goat? 🤍 Walking through the neighbourhood today we came across a local kambing guling being cooked. Goat slowly turning over the charcoal, smoke in the air, and the smell drifting down the gang. I asked in Indonesian if I could film and how long it takes to cook. Moments like this are such a great reminder of how food and community come together here. It’s these little everyday interactions that make living in Bali feel so special.

As the sun sets over the lush Balinese landscape, the air is filled with an enticing aroma that beckons you to explore the vibrant culinary scene of this enchanting island. Today, the tantalizing scent of a local delicacy, kambing guling—or BBQ goat—permeates the air, inviting curious families to embark on a mouth-watering adventure.

Wandering through the lively neighborhood, you'll find a crowd gathered around a slowly rotating goat on a spit, with smoke curling up into the sky. Here, in the heart of Bali, food is more than just sustenance; it's a celebration of community and culture. As the goat roasts to perfection over glowing charcoal, locals and tourists alike gather to share stories, laughter, and the anticipation of a truly unique feast.

Curious about this time-honored tradition, I couldn't resist asking one of the locals, in my best Indonesian, about the process. With a warm smile, they explained that the preparation is an art form, requiring patience and skill to ensure the meat is tender and infused with smoky, aromatic spices—a true testament to Bali's rich food heritage.

Experiencing kambing guling is more than just dining; it’s diving into the island’s soul. So, if you're in Bali with your family, don't miss the chance to immerse yourselves in this cultural tapestry that tantalizes not just your taste buds, but your sense of connection to this vibrant community.

As the night deepens and the stars twinkle above, you'll walk away from this culinary encounter with not just a satisfied palate, but cherished memories of the warm hospitality and the charming customs of Bali that make every moment spent here feel truly special.
