The Day We Scooped a Biawak Out of Our Koi Pond in Bali

Just another typical morning in Bali—sun shining, birds chirping, and… a baby biawak doing graceful laps in our koi pond. If you’ve never heard of a biawak, picture a miniature Komodo dragon (but way less intimidating). We promise, it's not a crocodile! This wasn't our first encounter with reptilian surprises. Some of you might remember Sate, the original biawak adventurer who once decided our swimming pool was the perfect place for a dip. Well, it seems the tradition continues with her offspring making a splash—literally. We spotted this scaly little visitor weaving its way through our koi pond like it belonged there. With koi fish darting nervously and our morning coffee put on hold, we sprang into action. Equipped with nothing more than a trusty pool scoop, some courage, and a lot of laughter, a rescue mission commenced. Fortunately, both koi and human nerves survived the escapade. Our young explorer was safely relocated to nearby greenery where it can live out its wild Bali dreams—away from our fish. Bali life truly knows how to keep things interesting. One minute you’re watering the garden, the next you’re face-to-face with tropical wildlife.
