From Caravan Dreams to Island Life: Our Unexpected Move to Bali

It’s been 2 years!! From Caravan Life to Bali Living: How It All Unfolded We sold our house, bought a caravan, and set off on another Australian adventure… or so we thought. The plan was simple: slow travel, wide open roads, family time, and making memories along the way. Then we booked a one-month trip to Bali to celebrate Chad’s 40th; just a pause before continuing on. But Bali had other plans. With only a few possessions left back home, something shifted. We returned to Australia, sold the car, the caravan, and the camper… and chose a completely different kind of adventure. One that didn’t come with a route map or an end date. Two years later, everything has changed and yet so much feels exactly right. Life looks slower here. Richer. More grounded. Our days are filled with simple routines, deep family time, culture, community, and a whole lot of gratitude. Bali and Indonesia, and especially its people, have left an everlasting mark on our hearts, one we’ll carry with us forever. We came for a month. We stayed for the lessons. And we’re endlessly grateful for the life this island has given our family. 🌺

We sold our house, packed up the essentials into a caravan, and hit the road with dreams of freedom, adventure, and unforgettable Aussie landscapes. Life on the road was a dream come true — slow mornings, endless horizons, and the rare gift of uninterrupted family time. Then came Chad’s 40th. We booked a one-month trip to Bali to celebrate — just a short break before rejoining the bitumen-streaked highways. Instead, Bali had a different plan. The moment we arrived, something shifted. The energy, the warmth of the people, the deep-rooted culture — it wrapped around us like a gentle hug. What began as a vacation started to feel like a new chapter. We flew back to Australia, sold everything — car, caravan, camper — and made the leap into island life. Two years later, we’re still here. And honestly? We’ve never felt more at home. Days in Bali are slower but fuller. There’s a rhythm here that invites you to be present — early scooter rides to school, market trips, community ceremonies, and deep connections with locals and fellow expats alike. For families thinking about traveling to Bali or even staying longer, this island offers more than palm trees and beaches. It offers perspective. A chance to recalibrate, reconnect, and truly live. Our kids are learning more from temple visits, language classes, and playing barefoot with neighborhood friends than we could’ve hoped for on any itinerary. Life is far from perfect, but it’s incredibly real — and full of gratitude. We thought we were pausing our adventure. In truth, we were just beginning it. So if you’re dreaming of something different, something deeper — maybe Bali is calling you too. 🌺
