Two Treasures from Bali That Have Found a Place in My Kitchen—and My Heart

Food, Activities, Tips

Two beautiful things that have found a home in my kitchen—and my heart! First, let’s talk about the magic that is Bali sea salt. Harvested on the east coast by the incredible Bu Wayan Putri, this salt is the best I’ve ever tasted. One pinch, and it’s like the entire ocean has landed on your tongue. I’ve been absolutely obsessed ever since my first taste—how could something so simple carry so much flavor? It’s truly a treasure of Bali, and now it has a permanent spot in our home. But the second treasure in this photo is just as special. It’s a handmade canister created by my ceramics teacher, the amazing Bu Riyanni from @clayplaybali Before Christmas, I completed a 5-day intensive course with her, learning so much about working with clay. During one of our sessions, I watched her transform a bowl and a plate into this elegant canister, and I was completely mesmerized. I tried to make a salt jar myself during the course, but sometimes the clay has other plans, and mine cracked. It was a little c’est la vie moment that made me appreciate how much skill and care goes into every handmade piece. When I saw this canister again today, I knew it was meant to come home with me. Now it holds my Bali sea salt—a perfect pairing of beauty and flavor—and every time I use it, I’ll think of the craftsmanship and heart that created both. Feeling so grateful for these small but meaningful things that remind me of the creativity, tradition, and beauty of Bali every single day. Thank you, Bu Riyanni @r_djangkaru and Bu Wayan Putri, for sharing your talents and traditions. It’s a privilege to use and cherish these pieces of your work. What’s one small thing in your kitchen that sparks joy every time you use it? I’d love to hear about it! #BaliSeaSalt #ClayPlayBali #HandmadeWithLove #BalineseCraftsmanship #SupportLocal #BaliTreasures #CeramicsLove #EastBali #SaltFarmToTable #KitchenInspo #BaliLife

**Two treasures from Bali have found their way into my kitchen—and my heart—and I simply can’t wait to share them with you.** The first? Bali sea salt. It’s not just any salt—it’s a pinch of east Bali itself, harvested by the wonderful Bu Wayan Putri. One sprinkle brings such an explosion of flavor, it feels as though the entire ocean has made a cameo in your meal. Simple yet extraordinary, this salt has me utterly captivated, and it’s now an unmissable part of my cooking routine. The second treasure is the vessel that holds it: a handmade ceramic canister crafted by the immensely talented Bu Riyanni of @clayplaybali. This piece is so much more than just a container. It’s a symbol of tradition, patience, and artistic craftsmanship. During a 5-day ceramic-making workshop with her, I experienced firsthand how clay seemed to come alive under her hands as she shaped this very canister from a bowl and plate. Though my own attempt at creating a salt jar didn’t make it—it cracked in the process—it gave me a profound respect for the skill and heart behind handmade ceramics. When I spotted this elegant creation after my course, I knew instantly that it was destined to carry my Bali sea salt. Together, the salt and the canister have become a seamless pairing—one speaking of the natural beauty of Bali, and the other, its artistry. Every time I open that canister, I’m reminded of the creativity and tradition that thrive in Bali. These small tokens are more than objects—they’re cherished memories of the people and places that make Bali so enchanting. What about you? Do you have a small kitchen treasure that sparks joy every time you use it? Let me know—I’m always curious about the objects that bring meaning to everyday life!\*\* #BaliSeaSalt #ClayPlayBali #HandmadeWithLove #BalineseCraftsmanship #SimpleJoy #BaliInspiredCooking #SupportLocal
