How Bali Made Us Transport a Giant Coil of Pipe… On a Motorbike!
Activities, Tips
On today’s episode of “How do we get this home on a motorbike?”… 🤔🏍️
Lola and I set out with a simple mission—buy some pipe and get it home. Easy, right? Wrong. Because this is Bali, and in true Bali style, we forgot to think through one crucial detail… transporting said pipe.
So there we were, standing outside the hardware store, holding a giant coil of pipe and staring at our motorbike like it was about to perform a miracle. I suggested we balance it, tie it, or even drag it—but Lola, being the creative genius she is, decided to wear it.
That’s right—she slid it over her like a giant hula hoop, and just like that, we were off! Zooming through the streets of Bali, me driving and Lola sitting behind me looking like the world’s most committed hula hoop champion. Smiles and giggles from the locals followed us the whole way, probably thinking “crazy bule!” but hey, we made their day—and ours too!
We laughed the whole way home, dodging curious stares and the occasional dog that thought our moving hoop was some sort of game. And just like that, we made it—pipe intact, dignity (mostly) intact, and one more hilarious story added to our Bali adventures.
Moral of the story? In Bali, where there’s a will, there’s a way—even if that way involves turning your kid into a walking, talking pipe rack.

On today’s episode of “How do we get this home on a motorbike?”… 🤔🏍️
Lola and I embarked on what seemed like a straightforward mission—buying some pipe and bringing it home. Simple, right? Well, not in Bali! The moment we stepped out of the hardware store holding a giant, unwieldy coil of pipe, we found ourselves locked in an existential debate with our trusty motorbike. How exactly were we going to transport this thing?
Balancing it precariously? No. Tying it like some surreal art installation? Maybe. Dragging it? Definitely not! Luckily, Lola had a stroke of brilliance. With the determined confidence only kids can muster, she hoisted the pipe coil around her like an oversized hula hoop. And just like that, we were ready to roll.
Picture this: me, navigating the bustling streets of Bali, and Lola perched behind me, wearing a massive ring of pipe like a champion on her way to the Hula Hoop Olympics. Locals lined the streets, grinning from ear to ear, some even shouting, “Crazy bule!” as we zoomed past. The onlookers’ laughter was contagious, and soon we were giggling so hard that it became dangerous to concentrate on the road.
Despite the curious glances, tails of amused dogs chasing us, and the occasional wobble, we made it home in one piece. Pipe undamaged, our mission accomplished, and another hilariously unforgettable Bali anecdote to share around the dinner table.
In Bali, creativity and perseverance are must-have travel skills. Sure, we might have looked ridiculous, but these are the moments that transform a simple errand into a lifelong memory. So, what’s the quirkiest thing you’ve ever lugged home on two wheels? Share your story below—we’d love to hear it!
