Why You Should Always Watch Your Step in Bali

Always look down when walking the streets of Bali 👀😂 Yes, lots of footpaths in the tourist areas have had a glow-up… but 99% of the time, keeping your eyes on the ground is still the safest bet. Loose tiles, surprise holes, random steps... Bali keeps you humble. And PLEASE tell me you noticed those up-close legs are Chad’s and not mine. I repeat: not mine. 😂

When you think of Bali, chances are you're picturing lush rice terraces, turquoise beaches, and Insta-worthy smoothie bowls— not cracked sidewalks and sneaky potholes. But ask any seasoned traveler, and they'll tell you: one of the most important travel tips for Bali? Always watch your step! 👣 While tourist hotspots like Seminyak and Ubud have seen some improvements in their paths, the majority of Bali’s sidewalks are still delightfully unpredictable. One second you’re strolling with a fresh coconut in hand, the next you’re dodging a loose tile or stumbling over an unexpected step. It keeps you humble— and maybe just a little more coordinated by the end of your trip. Families especially need to be mindful. Little ones love to run ahead, but uneven pavement and sudden holes are not playground material. Hold hands, stick to well-lit paths in the evening, and wear comfortable shoes—trust us, those cute sandals can wait until dinner. It’s not just about avoiding a stubbed toe (though that happens, too). Watching your footing can help keep your Bali adventure injury-free and full of memory-making—not ER visits. 😉 Bonus tip: if you're snapping street pics or admiring the scenery, pause safely to soak it all in. Multitasking with your gaze in the clouds and your feet on flaky tiles? Risky business! So yes, always take a moment to look up and appreciate Bali’s magic… just make sure to look down once in a while too. Your ankles will thank you! (And for the record: those legs in the viral footpath photo? 100% Chad’s, not mine. Allegedly. 😂)
