How to Create a Colorful Rumi Braid for Your Child’s Birthday in Bali
Loading video player...
We made Lola a Rumi purple braid using the same nylon bands you see in Bali’s colourful hair braids! 🎀 Perfect for her K-pop Demon Hunters birthday look — and so easy to do yourself. Happy Birthday Lola #BaliFamilyFinds #BaliWithKids #BaliBraids #KpopBirthday #FamilyInBali
If you're celebrating your child's birthday in Bali, why not add a splash of color with a fun, vibrant Rumi braid? Inspired by the island’s famous beach braids, these colorful creations are an easy and festive way to let your little one shine—especially when paired with a birthday dress-up theme, like our K-pop Demon Hunters party for Lola!
To make your own Rumi braid, start with Bali’s iconic brightly colored nylon bands. You can find them at markets like Ubud Art Market or the beachside stalls in Seminyak. We chose shades of purple to match Lola’s K-pop birthday theme, but you can mix and match for a rainbow effect.
Section a small portion of hair near the scalp, thread in your nylon cords, and start a simple three-strand braid, weaving the threads together. It only takes a few minutes, and no tools beyond hair ties and a little patience. For that extra sparkle, add cute accessories like clips, charms, or even tiny beads from local shops in Canggu.
Creating Rumi braids together is not just a fun birthday activity—it’s also a lovely way to bond with your children, engage with local craft culture, and come home with a little Bali magic braided right in.
Whether your child is channeling K-pop vibes like Lola or simply wants a rainbow braid to mark their special day, Bali offers the perfect inspiration. Happy birthday, Lola—and happy braiding to all our fellow traveling families!
