One of the greatest joys of parenting is watching your kids discover the things that light them up. For Lola, it’s all things crafty. From crocheting to painting to gluing googly eyes on shells—this girl is a creator at heart. Her love language? Making things and gifting them to people she loves. We always say that supporting our children’s passions doesn’t have to look like a perfectly planned curriculum or expensive lessons. Sometimes, it’s as simple as taking them to the places that spark their curiosity and letting them go wild with imagination. Toko Central in Kuta is one of those places. Honestly, it’s a haberdashery-lover’s dream. Think walls of buttons, rolls of ribbons, every kind of bead imaginable, glittering appliqués inspired by Balinese and Indonesian art, and shiny treasures at every turn. The moment Lola walked in, her eyes lit up—and within seconds, she had a little basket and was curating her dream collection of beads and trinkets. This visit, she decided to start beading bracelets (we’re all proudly wearing our new wrist candy already). She chose each bead so carefully—talking about colours, meaning, and who she wanted to make them for. She even found some sweet charms to make matching friendship sets. Watching her dive into something new and own it entirely is just… magic. I’m no expert in beading (or crochet for that matter—she passed me long ago!), so we’re now on the lookout for some fun workshops or classes she can do as part of her homeschooling. Because while I’ll always be her biggest cheerleader, I know when it’s time to bring in people with skills far beyond mine.
