Finding Community in Bali: A Crochet Meet-Up to Remember

One of the things we’ve been most grateful for since moving to Bali is how many little communities have opened their arms to us – and the crochet community is one of the sweetest. Lola and I have always loved crochet, so when Christine, the lovely owner of Kyorochet, reached out to invite us to the very first crochet meet-up, we were so excited. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make that one – but there was no way we were missing the next! So, with Lola’s giant crochet bag in hand, we made our way into Denpasar for an afternoon filled with yarn, coffee, and new friends. The space was full of amazing local Balinese women, all with their “work in progress” pieces, chatting away over sweets and drinks while making the most incredible creations. There’s just something so special about sitting together, slowing down, and sharing a hobby – especially in a new place that already feels like home. It was a reminder of how hobbies can connect us across cultures, and I’m so glad Lola got to see and be part of that. If you’re in Bali and would love to learn crochet yourself, Christine is your girl! She offers personal lessons and is just as warm and welcoming as you’d imagine. You can find her on the Bali Family Finds app. @balifamilyfinds #BaliFamilyFinds #BaliWithKids #BaliFamilyAdventures #CrochetCommunity #KyorochetBali #FamilyLifeInBali #CreativeCommunityBali Want me to write a shorter, punchy version of this too, in case you want to run it as a TikTok/Instagram caption alongside a reel?

One of the most beautiful surprises about life in Bali has been discovering how many welcoming communities exist across this island—and the crochet community truly stands out. From the moment Christine, the kind-hearted founder of Kyorochet, invited us to her crochet meet-up, we knew we’d found something special. Though we missed the first gathering, we couldn’t wait to join the next one. So, Lola and I packed up her overflowing crochet tote and headed to Denpasar for an afternoon of creativity, conversation, and connection. The space was alive with chatter and laughter, filled with talented local Balinese women quietly working on colorful projects while enjoying homemade treats and iced coffee. It was heartwarming to watch Lola become part of it so naturally—learning stitches, sharing smiles, and marveling at everyone’s works in progress. There’s something so grounding about sitting in a circle, yarn in hand, surrounded by people who share the same passion. It reminded us that even in a new place, simple joys like crafting together can bridge cultural gaps and create instant friendships. If you find yourself in Bali and are curious about crochet—whether you're a total beginner or simply craving creative company—Christine offers one-on-one lessons and workshops. She's as patient and lovely as they come, and you can connect with her through the Bali Family Finds app. Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in this cozy corner of Bali life. It’s not just about crochet; it’s about community, creativity, and feeling right at home—even oceans away.
