Stays, Tips, Activities

How can I stay in Bali for 1 year? How do I move to Bali permanently? We get these questions daily!!! Honestly it was such a crazy ride googling, reading blogs, searching for ALL the answers! But… it was worth it! Moving our family of 6 to Bali has been something wlse 🤩 🤩 #balilife #baliindonesia #homeschooling #homeschool #homeschoolingaustralia #baliwithkids
**Dreaming of moving your family to Bali?** Trust us, we’ve been there—sleepless nights spent Googling, obsessively reading expat blogs, and piecing together the steps to make the move. But wow, was it worth it! Our family of six packed up our Aussie life and dove headfirst into Bali’s incredible culture, lush landscapes, and warm community. Here’s what we learned!
**How can you stay in Bali for one year?** The key is the right visa. Start by looking into the Social-Cultural Visa (Visa B211A), which can be extended to six months, or opt for a KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit) for longer stays. We partnered with a reliable visa agent—seriously, game changer! It’s an upfront cost, but you'll thank yourself later when you're not drowning in paperwork.
**What about homeschooling the kids?** With Bali’s growing expat community, there’s no shortage of resources. We chose a semi-structured homeschooling approach, mixing online programs with weekly meetups at local learning hubs like The Green School or Ubud’s family co-ops. The kids have loved learning through adventures—like exploring rice terraces and interacting with Balinese traditions.
**And living your Bali dream?** Settle into expat-friendly neighborhoods like Canggu, Sanur, or Ubud, each with its own vibe. Renting a villa is surprisingly affordable if you commit longer-term. Pro tip: negotiate! It’s customary in Bali, and you’d be surprised how flexible landlords are.
Ultimately, the move did take effort—navigating shifting regulations, searching for schooling options, and adjusting to island life isn’t without its curveballs. But those sunsets, jungle sounds, and sense of real connection made it all beyond worth it.
Ready to take the leap? Start planning, and we’ll see you here in paradise! 🌴✨
