🇮🇩 LEARNING A LITTLE OF THE LOCAL LANGUAGE CAN OPEN SO MANY DOORS. ❤️ You don’t need to be fluent. You don’t even need to get it right. Sometimes just knowing a few words and being willing to give it a go can completely change an experience. On our Lovina boat trip, the kids wanted to sit right up the front of the boat. So I asked our Bapak in Indonesian if they could sit on the front of the boat. He smiled and said “Silakan.” ❤️ And off they went! He found some little waves and had the boat bouncing up and down, with the kids absolutely LOVING every second of it. 😂🌊 Now, would they have had an amazing time anyway? Probably. But there’s something really special about being able to communicate directly, even with just a few simple words. And I’ve found that learning Indonesian has opened up so many little moments like this for us. A smile. A conversation. A joke. A local recommendation. An invitation. Sometimes a completely unexpected experience. You don’t need perfect Bahasa Indonesia.
