☀️ New curtains = total game changer!
Last rainy season, our room would light up like a disco with every lightning strike — then bake like an oven during the day. Since we’re staying longer, we decided it was time to make a few comfort upgrades… starting with 80% blockout curtains 🙌
We were so happy with the service and quality (I’ve tagged where we got them from) — we tested them in our room first, loved them, and then went back for the kids’ room too.
It’s such a different experience renting in Bali — you’re responsible for maintaining and making your home comfortable, even when it’s not technically “yours.” Still feels weird not having to ask permission from a real estate agent (though we kinda did anyway 😂).
Money well spent and fingers crossed it means no more 5am “the sun’s up!” wakeups from the kids ☀️🌴

When we moved into our Bali rental, we quickly realized two things: tropical storms come with their own light show, and the morning sun doesn’t believe in sleeping in. 🌩️☀️ At first, we laughed it off — a few flashes here, a 5am wake-up call there. But as our stay stretched beyond a couple of weeks, we knew comfort upgrades were no longer a luxury, but a must.
Enter: blockout curtains. 🙌 We installed 80% blockout curtains in our bedroom, and the transformation was instant. No more mid-storm disco lights and definitely no more sizzling-hot naps during the day. Nights became restful, and we actually started feeling like this rental was our home, not just a stopover.
The best part? The curtains were affordable, great quality, and came with top-notch service (I’ve tagged the local Bali vendor we used — highly recommend!). We were so impressed that we went back and got another set for the kids’ room. They’ve been sleeping longer, and let’s be honest — that makes all the difference. 😴🌴
One thing you learn quickly when renting in Bali is that even if the place isn’t “yours,” you’re the one who maintains it. It’s a strange but freeing experience — we didn’t need clearance from an agent or landlord, though out of habit, we kinda asked anyway. 😂
If you’re staying in Bali long-term with your family, small upgrades like this can turn your rental into a sanctuary. Blackout curtains might seem like a minor detail, but for us, they were a game changer.
Pro tip for fellow expat parents: don’t wait for sunrise alarms or sauna-style afternoons to make the switch. Your future, well-rested self will thank you!
