Banana Pancakes & Big Kids: A Mother's Day Breakfast in Bali

One-on-one time with the big boys doesn’t come around as often as it used to… but this morning, they invited me out for a special Mother’s Day brekkie—and how could I ever say no to that? 💛 For a long time, it was just the four of us. Me, Chad, and these two little amigos. We adventured, we learned, we made mistakes together. They were my whole world when motherhood was new and messy and magic all at once. And I look at them now—taller, wiser, more independent—and I see two young men becoming. When Fox and Lola joined the party, our family felt complete… but that early chapter, just the four of us, still holds such a tender space in my heart. It was the season where I found myself as a mum, and where they helped shape me just as much as I shaped them. These days, they’re busy chasing their own passions, making music, coding, creating, questioning everything (as they should). They’re finding their place in the world—and I get the privilege of watching it all unfold. So this breakfast? This simple invite from them? It was everything. It reminded me that no matter how big they get, they’ll always be my boys. The ones who first made me “Mum.” And just quietly, sitting across from them at Sala in Sanur on Tamblingan, sharing laughs and banana pancakes—I felt like the luckiest woman in the world. 🌸 📍@salabistro #MothersDay #BaliFamilyFinds #ChadAndMiaOfficial #BigKidsLittleMoments #MotherhoodJourney #FamilyInBali #MumLife #MomentsThatMatter #TeenBoys #IslandLife #BaliWithKids #MothersDayInBali #SalaBali

One of the sweetest surprises of my Bali days came wrapped in banana pancakes and teenage grins this Mother’s Day morning. My two eldest—once tiny adventurers clinging to my side, now nearly grown and charging ahead into the world—invited me for a quiet brekkie at Sala Bistro in Sanur. And how could I say no? We sat on Tamblingan’s breezy café strip, plates piled with golden pancakes and fresh local fruit. For those traveling Bali with kids—especially older ones—Sala feels like a gem. The cozy ambiance, wholesome menu, and stellar coffee make it an easy pick for meaningful moments. Being here with my boys brought it all full circle. There was a time, before little Fox and Lola completed our crew, when it was just the four of us—Chad, me, and these two little souls. We grew up together in those early years of parenting. We fumbled through learning, stretched what love could hold, and built traditions like this: slow breakfasts, honest chats, and always a side of something sweet. Now they're taller, smarter, and asking bigger questions. They’ve grown into their own dreams—music-making, coding, pushing creative limits. And still, today, they paused to sit with me. To remember where it all began. Traveling as a family doesn’t always pause for nostalgia, but in Bali, it seems to find you anyway. Especially in places like Sala, where paradise feels a little like home. If you’re heading to Bali with older kids, carve out space for mornings like this. Beyond the volcano hikes and temple tours, these small, simple moments—the banana pancake mornings—they’re the ones you’ll treasure most. 📍Sala Bistro, Sanur #MothersDayInBali #BaliWithKids #SalaBali #FamilyTravel #BigKidsLittleMoments #SanurEats #BaliBreakfasts #MomLifeInParadise
