One of the best pieces of advice I've been given since moving to Bali is simple. Always ask your friends where they go. Whether it's a mechanic, a tailor, somewhere for lunch or a nail salon, I've learnt that the best recommendations almost always come from people who already live here. Then double check with google reviews! This nail appointment was one of those recommendations, and I'm so glad I listened. I knew I was in for a bit of a session, so I packed my Kindle, settled into the chair and happily disappeared into a book for the next two and a half hours. To be fair, I did ask for pretty much everything. Gel extensions, gel polish, an ombré design and a little bit of nail art, so I wasn't exactly making life easy for them. Watching someone who's really skilled at their craft is strangely satisfying. There was no rushing, no shortcuts and so much attention to detail. Every layer, every shape and every tiny brush stroke was done with so much care that I found myself putting my Kindle down every now and then just to watch them work. The real test, though, is never how your nails look when you walk out of the salon. It's how they look four weeks later. I'm happy to report they're still going strong. No lifting. No broken nails. No chips. Just as pretty as the day I had them done. I don't mind paying for quality when something lasts, and these have been worth every rupiah. So once again, another recommendation from a friend has turned into another place I'll happily keep going back to. I'm starting to think that might be the real Bali travel tip. Forget searching "best rated" online. Just ask someone who already lives here. They usually know exactly where to send you. 😊 @kukukubu_studio
