🇮🇩 ONE OF THE THINGS WE LOVED MOST ABOUT WALKING GAJAH MADA STREET… It wasn’t just seeing the buildings and markets. It was hearing the stories behind them. Our guide was fantastic at explaining how this part of Denpasar has changed over time, what used to be in certain buildings and spaces, and how the area once looked compared with what we see today. Gajah Mada is also such a fascinating example of the multicultural history of Denpasar, with Balinese, Chinese, Arab, Indian, Javanese and other communities all contributing to the character of this part of the city. Walking through it while hearing those stories made us look at the streets completely differently. Suddenly, an old building isn’t just an old building. You’re standing somewhere that has had a completely different life before you arrived. 🎥 This is another little snippet from our Denpasar Heritage Walk on YouTube. We’ve shared the full experience over on our Chad & Mia YouTube channel, including Pasar Badung, Gajah Mada Street, the history of the area and all the little things we discovered along the way. 👉🏼 Head to YouTube and watch the full Denpasar Heritage Walk with us. 🇮🇩❤️
