Our Epic Sanur to Amed Bali Road Trip: Beaches, Coffee, and Unexpected Adventures

Loading video player...

Our last day on the Sanur → Amed road trip was a big one! We were up with the kids at 5:30am and straight to Om Karma Cafe for 7am coffee and brekkie. When we got back, we woke the big boys and headed out to Lipah Beach for a morning snorkel. Next stop: Vienna Beach Resort for another round of coffee + brekkie, where we could swim straight out into the reef and see fish and coral. Back to the villa for a mad pack (nearly forgot our trusty portable doorbell!), but roadworks slowed us down. Google Maps threw us on a wild detour, which ended up being amazing — we found Warung Coffee Bali in Karangasem for lunch, surrounded by some of the most beautiful rice fields we’ve ever seen. We sent the drone up for those epic bird’s-eye views before cruising down scenic roads through to Manggis. By the time we got home, the rental car was filled up, bags unpacked… and a cat had fallen through our bathroom manhole. Nothing says “Bali road trip” quite like that. Where should we head next? Our final day on the Sanur to Amed road trip packed in everything we love about Bali: sunrises, beaches, coffee, and the kind of backroads detour that turns into a highlight. The kids had us up by 5:30am, and by 7 we were caffeinated and happily munching brekkie at the cozy Om Karma Café (@omkarmacafebali). With the sunrise casting a gentle glow over Amed, it was the perfect way to start the day. Next up: an early snorkel at Lipah Beach, where the calm waters and vibrant reefs kept everyone entertained — big kids and little fins alike. We followed that up with a second dose of coffee and ocean vibes at Vienna Beach Resort (@vienna_beach_resort), where you can literally swim out from breakfast to a reef filled with colorful marine life. After a frantic pack-up (note to self: never forget the portable doorbell!), roadworks nudged us off-course — thankfully. A surprise detour guided us through some of the most stunning rice fields in Karangasem, where we stumbled on Warung Coffee Bali (@karangasemterkini). The views were good enough to pull out the drone, and the lunch? Simple, local, and delicious. We cruised through Manggis with those golden fields in our rearview, our rental car finally humming back into Sanur just in time for an… unexpected turn of events: a cat fell through our bathroom ceiling. Because, why not? It was the perfect end to an unforgettable Bali family road trip. Heading to Bali with your crew?
