Why the Simple Life in Bali Still Feels Like a Dream — Two Years On

Two years in… and honestly, not much has changed — and that’s exactly what I love. Daily life in Bali still looks like simple living, ocean time, slow mornings, grocery runs, washing, and non-negotiable family dinners around the table. It’s a throwback, but also still our everyday. The same calm rhythm, the same focus on being together, the same appreciation for slowing life right down. Simple… but really, really good.

Two years in, and the magic of Bali hasn’t faded—not even a little.

Life here still unfolds in the same gentle rhythm that first captivated us: mornings begin slowly, often with a barefoot stroll to the beach, coffee in hand and salt in the air. The kids chase waves while the sun warms the black sand underfoot. It’s not hurried. Nothing needs to be.

Our days are filled with life’s simple, meaningful moments. A quick ride to the local market becomes an adventure filled with smiles from familiar faces and bags brimming with fresh tropical fruit. Afternoons are for laundry drying in the sun and catching sea breezes, while coconut-scented air floats past.

But above all, it’s the togetherness that keeps us grounded. Every evening, no matter how the day unfolded, we gather—phones off, candles on—for dinner around the table. The conversations are just as nourishing as the homemade nasi goreng, and the laughter lingers longer than dessert.

There’s something about Bali that encourages you to do less, but feel more. Maybe it’s the island’s unchanging charm after all this time, or the way daily rituals have become tiny celebrations. What we once called ‘the dream’ has simply become life.

For families thinking of traveling to Bali or considering a slower, more intentional way of living abroad, this place continues to offer a gentle reminder: happiness doesn’t have to be loud or complicated. Sometimes, it’s just beach mornings, local markets, and being together as the sun sets over the rice paddies.

Simple, yes—but truly, wonderfully good.
