A Sweet and Wild Day in Ubud: Coffee, Chocolate & Monkeys

Throwback road trip – Day 7 ☕🍫🐒 A full Ubud day for us. We visited a coffee and chocolate factory, tasted everything, and even learnt how to temper chocolate (very delicious research 😅). Then it was off to the Ubud Monkey Forest; amazing, but definitely one where you follow the rules. Back home for a rest, Gojek ordered for dinner, and ready for more adventures tomorrow.

Day seven of our Bali road trip brought us to the cultural heart of the island—Ubud—for a day packed with sweet treats, curious monkeys, and unforgettable family experiences. We kicked things off with a visit to a local coffee and chocolate factory nestled among Ubud’s lush greenery. The experience was both delicious and educational. We learned about the traditional Balinese coffee-making process and sampled everything from bold espresso to locally-crafted chocolate blends. The real highlight? Tempering chocolate by hand and—of course—tasting the results. It was hands-on fun that the whole family could partake in (and yes, the kids may have licked the spoon!). With elevated energy levels, we made our way to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. Home to hundreds of long-tailed macaques, this lush forest is a must-visit in Ubud. The winding moss-covered paths, towering trees, and ancient temples make it feel like a jungle straight out of a storybook. While the monkeys are undeniably cute and playful, they’re still wild animals—so definitely follow the posted guidelines. Keep snacks hidden, hold onto your hats, and enjoy watching them from a respectful distance. It’s a fantastic way to teach little ones about wildlife and respect for nature. After a full day of exploring, we headed back to our villa to rest our feet and reflect on the day’s adventures. Dinner? A quick Gojek order (bless modern conveniences), eaten poolside under the stars. Ubud delivered a perfect balance of fun, culture, and relaxed family bonding. Whether you're making chocolate, sipping coffee, or meeting monkeys, this town has something magical for everyone. Tip: Arrive early to the Monkey Forest to beat both the crowds and the afternoon heat—everyone (especially tired toddlers) will thank you!
