Why Rare Date Nights in Bali Mean the Most: Love, Parenthood & Ocean Breezes

Date nights… they’re few and far between for us. Not because we don’t love them (we do!), but because when you live in a foreign country, you don’t have the usual village of grandparents, siblings, or lifelong friends ready to swoop in for a few hours so you can escape for a cheeky dinner. Truth is, that’s kinda always been the case for us. For most of our life together, Chad and I have lived far from family—raising babies, juggling work, supporting each other without the daily backup crew. We’ve always just figured it out together. Now that the kids are older, even they chip in to help make moments like this happen. (Bless them!) So when we do sneak off for a date night, it’s a big deal. A proper reset. This time we crossed the island to one of our long-time favourites—Chez Gado Gado in Seminyak. Ocean breeze, amazing food, slow conversations that aren’t interrupted by snack requests or someone needing help finding their other shoe. 😅 It was a night to pause and remember who we are underneath the chaos and schedules and parenting hats. The “us” that still laughs over dinner and gets excited to share dessert. 💛 We probably won’t do it again for another 6 months… but hey, that’s what makes it special. To any parents far from their village, I see you. To any couples tag-teaming through life, I feel you. And to my forever date—thanks for making these rare nights feel like magic. And yes... we stopped for ice cream before heading home, and squeezed out 10 more minutes of bliss 😂 🍨 @chezgadogado #DateNightInBali #ParentLife #ExpatFamily #MarriageMoments #ChezGadoGado #ChadAndMiaOfficial #BaliFamilyFinds #MakingTimeForEachOther #LoveOnAnIsland #RealLifeBali

Date nights. They’re rare, golden moments for us—and maybe for you, too, if you're raising kids abroad without the usual village of support. Living in Bali means island magic on tap, but when you're parenting far from grandparents and lifelong friends, even a simple dinner out becomes a logistical masterpiece. For years, Chad and I have tackled life overseas—babies, school runs, work deadlines—without a babysitting safety net. We’ve learned to make it work together. Now our kids are old enough to pitch in (hallelujah!), and sometimes, just sometimes, we get to slip away for a night. This time, it was to one of our Bali favourites—Chez Gado Gado in Seminyak. Perched by the sea, with ocean breezes drifting through and waves crashing in the background, it reminded us of the beauty of slowing down and just being us. No “Mum, I can’t find my shoe!”, no snack negotiations, just uninterrupted conversation and a shared dessert—yes, we still fight over the last spoonful. In the rush of daily life, especially abroad, these rare pockets of connection are our reset buttons. They help us remember why we started this journey together, before the packed lunches and endless laundry. Whether you're traveling or living with your little ones far from home, know this: your relationship deserves moments like this. You may not have a village around, but the life you’re building together? That’s its own kind of magic. And in case you're wondering—yes, we made one last stop for ice cream on the way home. Because every sweet night deserves one more scoop. 🍨💛 #DateNightInBali #ParentLife #MakingTimeForEachOther #ChezGadoGado #ExpatFamily #LoveOnAnIsland
