Beyond Beaches: A Family's Journey into Bali’s Sustainable Heart

We might’ve stuck out a little at Bali Eco Tourism Week — a couple of content creators in a sea of sustainability experts, grassroots leaders, and passionate locals. But to be honest, we weren’t there to fit in. We were there to listen, to learn, and to ask ourselves the same question that guides everything we do here: "How can we help Bali?" Tourism is a huge part of Bali's economy — and while we’re grateful that it brought us here, we also feel a deep responsibility to give back. Living here has opened our eyes in so many ways, and this event was another layer peeled back. We sat and listened to some of the most inspiring speakers — people whose hearts are beating loudly for Bali, sharing real solutions and powerful stories. And yep, we learned about recycling, waste management, eco villages… and maggots (turns out they’re amazing for food waste composting — who knew?!). It was eye-opening, humbling, and honestly, a little emotional. These are the kinds of conversations that don’t always make it onto Instagram, but maybe they should. Because if you love Bali — really love it — then this stuff matters. We’re already making changes at home (small ones, but small things grow) and we’re committed to learning more, sharing what we learn, and showing our kids what it means to live with care and intention — especially in a place that’s given us so much. So no, it wasn’t your typical influencer event — but it might have been one of the most important ones we’ve attended. 🌱 #BaliEcoTourismWeek #SustainableBali #EcoTourism #BaliWithHeart #BaliFamilyFinds #GivingBackToBali #LearnAndGrow #FamilyLifeInBali #TourismWithPurpose #BaliGreenLiving #GratefulGuests

We came to Bali for the beaches, the culture, and the adventure. But somewhere along the way, our journey shifted—especially after attending Bali Eco Tourism Week. Picture this: a couple of wide-eyed content creators surrounded by environmental experts, grassroots organizers, and local changemakers. We definitely stood out, but in the best way possible. This wasn’t about photo ops or curated travel itineraries. It was about asking ourselves one big question: "How can we help Bali?" As a family living here, we’ve fallen deeply in love with this island. But love, as we’re learning, comes with responsibility. During the event, we listened to passionate talks on everything from sustainable farming to innovative composting methods (yes, maggots are heroes in food waste management!). We learned about eco villages, ethical tourism, and ways to support local businesses striving for greener futures. It was humbling, emotional — and eye-opening. These are the moments you don’t always see on social media. But they shape what we choose to share and how we live. Since the event, we've made small but meaningful changes at home—from better recycling habits to sourcing more locally produced goods. We're also involving our kids in these choices, hoping to instill a sense of care and curiosity that travels with them too. Bali’s future depends on more than foot traffic. It depends on thoughtful, conscious tourism that gives back more than it takes. We were reminded that every traveler has the power to be part of the solution. So while we may have arrived tourists, we’re growing into something more—with island roots, open minds, and hearts wide open. #BaliEcoTourismWeek #SustainableBali #EcoTourism #BaliWithHeart #FamilyLifeInBali #GivingBackToBali #TourismWithPurpose #BaliGreenLiving
