Hair Loss in Paradise: My Bali Journey Through Weight Loss, Perimenopause & Baby Hairs

Loading video player...

Being brave and sharing… Hair loss in Bali isn’t fun—but here’s the real story. After my weight loss surgery (50kg gone!), I didn’t just lose the weight… I lost about half the weight of my hair too. Then perimenopause joined the party and things got worse—thinning at my temples, crown, and even seeing scalp through my hairline. Don’t believe me? Go back through our videos… eek! The good news? After 5 months working closely with my dermatologist, things are finally turning around. I’ve got baby hairs sprouting everywhere, and now with scalp treatment + HRT in the mix, I’m expecting even better improvements. Until it all thickens up together, short hair it is. I know the questions will come about what I’m using or doing, but honestly this is a “speak to your doctor” scenario. Everyone’s situation is different, and this is mine. Here’s to strong new growth and embracing the in-between stages. 💇‍♀️✨ #HairJourney #PostWeightLossLife #Perimenopause #RealLifeInBali #balihairsalon

After losing 50kg thanks to weight loss surgery, I expected lighter clothes, more energy, and a new way of life in Bali… but not losing half my hair. Living in paradise isn’t always picture-perfect, especially when perimenopause also strikes, bringing with it even more hair thinning—think temples, crown, and a scalp that suddenly wanted to make a public appearance. If you’ve followed our family’s Bali adventure, you might’ve noticed the transformation—not just my waistline, but my hairline too. And yes, it was confronting. But five months ago, I decided to face it all head-on (quite literally) with the help of my dermatologist back in Denpasar. Fast forward to now and—baby hairs! Sprouting like wild tropical vines, they’ve given me hope (and a bit of a fuzzy halo I’m learning to love). Thanks to a tailored mix of scalp treatments and HRT, things are finally shifting. It’s not an overnight miracle, and short hair is here to stay for now, but I’m embracing the in-between phase with a breezy Bali attitude. Everyone’s health journey is unique—and I can’t stress this enough—what worked for me may not be for you. Before diving into treatments, always talk to your doctor. So, here’s to strong roots—physically, emotionally, and follicularly—and remembering that in a place as beautiful as Bali, even the tough parts of our journey deserve to be shared. Whether you’re considering long-term travel or already soaking up island life, know this: your health journey doesn’t stop at the airport. Bali may be paradise, but it’s also a powerful place for healing, growth, and some pretty great hair days ahead. #HairJourney #PostWeightLossLife #Perimenopause #RealLifeInBali #BaliFamilyTravel #BabyHairsInBali
