Why Overpacking Is Practically a Bali Rite of Passage

Overpacking is practically a Bali rite of passage.

Overpacking for Bali? Welcome to the club. It’s almost a rite of passage, especially for families trying to prepare for every possible scenario—sudden rainstorms, spontaneous temple visits, or the elusive mascara that totally might come in handy. Trust us, you’re not alone if you've crammed four pairs of sandals, three sunhats, and a portable fan into one suitcase. We’ve all been there.

But here's the truth: you don’t need as much as you think. Bali’s laid-back charm and tropical climate mean casual, comfortable clothing goes a long way. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are your best bet for staying cool and fitting in. Think flowy dresses, loose shirts, and plenty of swimwear (you’ll be in the water more than you think!).

If you're visiting with kids, keep it simple. Bring multi-use items like sarongs, which double as beach mats, stroller covers, or impromptu shade. Most family-friendly resorts offer laundry services, so you can cut down on the 'just in case' outfits. And yes, diapers and wipes are widely available if you forget or run out—Bali’s got you covered.

Leave the hairdryers, extra shoes, and bulky makeup kits behind—they’ll mostly stay in your room anyway. Instead, make space for reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, and power adapters (plug type C and F for Bali, by the way).

So yes, overpacking is part of the Bali experience—it shows you're excited, maybe even a little over-prepared. But with a little planning, you can pack light and travel smart, leaving more room for souvenirs (and serenity).
