“Selamat Ulang Tahun Republik Indonesia!” 🇮🇩 Words I never imagined I’d be saying with such love and pride — but here I am, celebrating Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day from the heart of beautiful Bali.

I’m Mia, originally from Australia, and I’ve called Bali home for the past year and seven months. What started as an adventure turned into something much deeper — a genuine connection to the people, the culture, and the language of Indonesia.

This week, I filmed a little something for my Bahasa class, and it hit me just how far I’ve come. While I’m still a long way from fluency (and yes, it’s still nerve-wracking to speak on camera!), I’m loving every moment of the journey. Learning Indonesian has opened so many doors — from grocery store chats to heartfelt connections during festivity-filled days like Hari Kemerdekaan.

Indonesia, especially Bali, has given our family a beautiful place to call home. The kindness of the locals and the richness of Balinese culture have been truly life-changing for us. That’s why learning Bahasa Indonesia isn’t just about language — it’s about respect, gratitude, and belonging.

A huge shoutout to my amazing teachers at Better Learn Now (@blnbali) for making language learning so fun and family-friendly! If you're visiting with little ones or planning a longer stay, they offer everything from casual classes to in-depth programs. Bonus: there's a discount inside the Bali Family Finds app too!

So to all my Indonesian friends — thank you for welcoming us so warmly. I can’t wait to celebrate this big day with you. 🇮🇩
Dirgahayu Indonesia! 🥰
