Thermomix in Bali? Discovering Indonesia’s Answer to High-Tech Cooking
I think I’ve found the Indonesian equivalent of a Thermomix! Back in Australia I owned two Thermomixes — it’s no secret | love to cook, and I’ve genuinely missed that style of cooking while living in Bali. Has anyone bought one of these local machines here? Is it worth it? Drop your experiences below - I need all the feedback before I pull the trigger!🍳👩🍳⏲️
If you're like me and once swore by your Thermomix back home, moving to Bali can come with a pinch of culinary withdrawal. I had _two_ back in Australia, and since relocating here, I’ve seriously missed the efficiency, the smooth purées, and the one-pot magic that made midweek cooking a breeze — especially with a family.
But here in Bali, I think I’ve finally found a worthy replacement.
While the official Thermomix is rarely stocked (and can be quite expensive if imported), Indonesia has its own answer to smart cooking in the form of high-tech multi-cookers from brands like Mito, Oxone, and Cosmos. I've seen versions with steaming, sautéing, rice-cooking, and blending functions — all in one very sleek, compact machine. One local favorite? The Mitochiba Food Processor, sometimes lovingly dubbed 'the Indonesian Thermomix' in local expat forums.
Prices are a pleasant surprise too — you could score one for a fraction of the cost of a Thermomix. Plus, many models are designed with Indonesian kitchens in mind, perfect for whipping up nasi goreng, sambal, or even your go-to smoothie bowls.
Before I take the plunge, though, I'd love to hear from others who’ve made the switch. Has anyone purchased one locally? How does it stack up for everyday use, especially family meals? I'm after ease, versatility, and cleanup convenience — much like my trusty TM back home.
Drop your recommendations (or warnings!) in the comments below. Let’s crowdsource the best tips for modern cooking in Bali — because good food and happy kitchens shouldn’t be left behind just because we’ve swapped backyard BBQs for rice terraces. 🍽️🌴
Happy cooking, fellow island dwellers!
