How Maggots are Making Bali Greener—One Household at a Time
When we ask ourselves “How can we help Bali?”—we don’t just mean in big, sweeping gestures. We mean in the small, everyday actions that slowly start to make a big impact. We were recently at the Eco Tourism Week event here in Bali, and while the crowd was mostly businesses, foundations, and eco-leaders and yep, we definitely felt a little out of place but... We were SO inspired by what we saw and learned. One stand that really stood out was Magi Farm—a Bali-based home composting system powered by… wait for it… MAGGOTS. 🐛 Yes, maggots. Tiny, wriggly, hardworking little critters that are solving big problems. Here’s how it works: ✨ You get a small tray (easy to keep at home) ✨ The maggots inside will reduce your food waste by up to 1kg a day ✨ The tray gets picked up weekly—so there’s no smell, no flies, no fuss ✨ Once a month, you receive 1kg of all-natural fertilizer, made by your little maggot workers completing their life cycle It’s a beautiful, zero-waste, closed-loop system—and honestly, it blew our minds. We’ve lived here in Bali long enough now to know that waste management is a real challenge. And while we’re just one family, we believe small efforts in the right direction matter. From reusable bags and water bottles, to reducing plastics and now—home composting with maggots—it’s all part of how we show our love and gratitude to the island that has given us so much. So this is us, doing what we can to tread lighter. And if you’re living here too, or even visiting for a while—check out @magifarm.bali and see if your home or villa can become a mini eco-hero too. Bali deserves our care. Let’s start small, and start now. 💚🌱 @magifarm.id #BaliEcoLiving #SustainableBali #MagiFarm #EcoTourismWeek #GratitudeToBali #ChadAndMiaOfficial #CompostRevolution #FamilyLivingInBali #BaliLife #BaliGreenSteps #WasteLessLiveMore
