Doing our bit for Bali 🌱🌍
We visited Eco Tourism Week in Bali and left feeling inspired by some incredible local initiatives — like MagiFarm!
Yes, we’ve got maggots in Bali… and they’re absolute legends when it comes to food waste.
These little guys eat up to 1kg of food waste per day, and once a week, they’re collected and taken to the “fly love room” to start the cycle again.
The adult flies? Turned into natural fertilizer, and each household gets 1kg of compost per month for their garden. Win–win–wiggle 🐛💚
We’re giving it a go as part of our family’s effort to reduce food waste and live a little greener.
Stay tuned — we’ve got a few more eco-changes happening around the house we can’t wait to share!

Doing our bit for Bali 🌱🌍

On our latest Bali adventure, we dropped into Eco Tourism Week and were blown away by the island’s growing commitment to sustainability. Among our favorite discoveries? MagiFarm – a local initiative turning maggots into eco-heroes!

Yes, you read that right. These wriggly warriors are helping tackle the island's food waste one kilo at a time. Each maggot can consume up to 1kg of food waste every day. Once they've had their feast, they move on to the charmingly named “fly love room” (🐛❤️🐛), where the cycle starts again.

The adult flies become rich, organic fertilizer – and here’s the coolest part: each participating household gets 1kg of composted gold per month for their gardens. It’s a nature-powered, zero-waste system that not only helps manage food scraps but also promotes lush, green spaces in local homes. How’s that for sustainable living?

We’re so inspired, we’ve decided to give it a go ourselves! Starting this week, we’re introducing maggot composting at home—our small way of honoring Bali’s eco-movement and teaching our kids about the power of smart, sustainable choices.

Traveling as a family in Bali? Be sure to check out Eco Tourism Week and visit @MagiFarm for a behind-the-scenes look at this amazing process. It's educational, eco-friendly, and surprisingly cute in a wriggly kind of way.

Stay tuned — we’ve got more green changes coming soon. Bali isn’t just beautiful, it’s also becoming a beacon for sustainable travel. Let’s keep it that way 🌿🌏
