Essential Kitchen Tools for Minimalist Living in Bali

Essential Kitchen Tools for Minimalist Living in Bali

Shopping in Bali, kitchen edition šŸ˜… Back in Australia I had a fully stocked kitchen with all the gadgets. Here I’m trying to keep things minimal and only buy what we actually need. But the other night I cracked. Making tomato soup and ladling it into the blender, pouring it out, then repeating the whole process drove me completely mad. So today’s purchase is a hand blender. Coming home for testing. Sometimes minimal living still needs the right tool šŸ¤

When we moved to Bali, I made a promise to myself: we’d go minimalist. After years in Australia with overflowing kitchen cupboards and every gadget imaginable, I wanted simple, intentional living. But I’ve learned that minimalist doesn’t mean doing things the hard way—it means choosing tools that actually work for your life.

Case in point: tomato soup night. What should have been a simple dinner turned into a soup-splattered, multi-step ordeal involving ladles and a standing blender. By the time I cleaned everything up, I was ready to throw in the (tea) towel.

Enter: the humble hand blender. Compact, affordable, and an absolute game-changer. Whether you're whipping up smoothies for the kids or blending veggies for a quick dinner, it’s one of the best kitchen investments you can make while living in Bali.

Shopping for kitchen tools here might be a bit different than what you're used to. I’ve found gems in places like ACE Hardware, Tokopedia (yes, the shipping might take a while), and even local shops in Seminyak or Ubud markets. Look for basic, multi-purpose items: a good chef's knife, a non-stick pan, a rice cooker (a must in Asia), and now, my new favorite—our hand blender.

Whether you’re a digital nomad working from a Bali villa or a family putting down roots here, minimalist living in the kitchen isn’t about sacrifice. It’s about choosing versatile, quality tools that make daily life easier without cluttering your space. Sometimes, less really is more—but only if it actually works.

Next up on my wish list: something to make juicing a breeze. Because hey, life in Bali deserves a fresh papaya juice by the pool, right?
