First day of homeschool for 2026 🤍
While most Aussie schools will start back in a week or two, we’ve chosen to begin early and it’s very us, honestly.
There are a few reasons behind it.
First, we love having the flexibility to start and stop when it makes sense for our family, not just when a calendar tells us to.
Second, we (hopefully) have more travel planned this year, and homeschooling gives us the freedom to take learning with us, pause when needed, and build life experience into education.
And third… reality 😂
Someone always gets sick. And when you’re a family of six, by the time it cycles through everyone, there goes a whole week. Having extra time up our sleeves just makes everything feel calmer and less rushed.
We don’t do perfect.
We do practical, flexible, and realistic.
Books open, snacks on the table, kids in pyjamas and honestly, it already feels like a good fit for how we live.
Here’s to another year of learning in all the ways 🤍
We kicked off homeschool early in 2026 — and honestly, it suits us perfectly. While many Aussie families are squeezing the last week out of summer before the school term begins, we’ve already embraced our books, snacks, and slippers (yes, pajamas included).
Why the early start? Flexibility is a big part of it. As a traveling family of six, we’ve learned the value of setting our own pace. Homeschooling lets us begin the year when it makes sense for us, not just when the calendar says so. That means we can front-load learning now and make space later for the things we love — like slow mornings, beach days, and exploring Bali together.
Travelling while homeschooling has its challenges, but mostly, it’s a gift. Our kids carry their education on the go — learning history while walking through temples, discovering science at rice terraces, and practicing math by budgeting their own spending money. Real-world learning blends seamlessly with curriculum when your classroom is wherever you are.
And let’s be real: someone’s always sick. Starting early gives us the buffer we need for life’s little curveballs. With six people under one roof, that extra breathing room keeps things calm and manageable when colds hit or travel plans shift.
We’re not aiming for perfect. We’re aiming for freedom, flexibility, and connection. Starting early gives us more time to dive deep when the kids are curious, and more freedom to pause when travel calls. Bali is just the beginning of our 2026 adventures, and we’re grateful that learning doesn’t have to stop when we pack our bags.
So here’s to another year of homeschooling — joyfully imperfect, beautifully practical, and rooted in the rhythm that works for us.
