In many communities, this is used to show that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies as part of local vaccination programs. It's an incredible initiative that helps identify vaccinated dogs and supports Bali's ongoing rabies control efforts. But here's something really important... 🚨 Never assume a dog is safe to approach just because it's wearing a red collar or ribbon. A red collar or ribbon doesn't guarantee a dog is rabies-free, and it doesn't tell you whether their vaccination is still up to date. It also doesn't tell you whether the dog is comfortable around people or could bite if it feels threatened. Always admire Bali's dogs from a respectful distance, avoid touching unfamiliar animals, and if you are scratched or bitten by any mammal in Bali, wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water and seek medical advice immediately. It's always better to be cautious. The good news is there are so many incredible organisations working tirelessly to improve the lives of Bali's street animals. Even a small donation can help provide food, vaccinations, sterilisation programs and lifesaving veterinary care. If you're staying in Bali for a while, many charities also welcome volunteers, foster carers or donations of pet food and supplies.
