Today in Indonesia it’s Kartini Day 🇮🇩 If you’re in Bali right now, you might notice kids dressed in traditional clothing, little performances at schools, and a lot of focus on women and education… and this is why 🤍 Kartini Day (21 April) honours Raden Ajeng Kartini, a woman who helped change the future for girls and women across Indonesia. Back in the late 1800s, girls were often not allowed to go to school or have a say in their future. Kartini believed that needed to change. She wrote powerful letters about women’s rights, education, and equality, sharing her ideas with people both in Indonesia and overseas. After she passed, her letters were published and became incredibly influential, helping to open the door for girls’ education in Indonesia. She is remembered as a symbol of courage, progress, and opportunity for women. It’s not a public holiday, so everything still runs as normal, but it’s a really meaningful day. For visitors, it’s a beautiful reminder that Bali and Indonesia are so much more than just beaches and holidays… there’s deep history, strong values, and powerful stories behind everyday life here. If you see celebrations today, take a moment to appreciate them 🤍
