Tomcat Beetles in Bali: Safety Tips Every Traveler Should Know
Tomcat Beetles in Bali – What You Need to Know 🐞☔️ With the recent unseasonal rain in Bali, we’ve seen a noticeable increase in Tomcat beetles – and while they may be tiny, they pack a punch if not handled carefully. Tomcat beetles don’t bite or sting, but their bodies contain a toxin (paederin) that can cause painful skin irritation, often mistaken for burns or severe rashes. If you find one on your skin: 🚫 DO NOT swat, squash, or smear it 💨 Instead, blow it off gently or encourage it onto a piece of paper or cloth 🧼 Immediately wash the area with soap and water 🧴 Apply antiseptic cream and monitor for any reactions – and always seek medical advice if needed These bugs are more active after rain, especially near lights at night, so keep your windows screened and lights dimmed when possible. Stay safe, especially if you’re travelling with little ones – and don’t forget, prevention is key: ✅ Keep lights off near open doors/windows at night ✅ Wear long sleeves in rural or damp areas ✅ Wash bedding and outdoor clothes regularly #TomcatBali #BaliTravelTips #BaliWithKids #BaliHealth #TropicalTravelTips #InsectsInBali #BaliFamilyFinds #TomcatBeetle #TravelSmartBali #BaliSafetyTips #BaliRainySeason #BaliAwareness #TomcatBurns #BaliBugWatch
